Jack Butland: Rangers 'determined' to block exit as Premier League club plot move
Jack Butland is attracting interest from Premier League clubs ahead of the summer window, but Rangers have no plans to sell.
The 33-year-old is unlikely to become the first-choice at any club in the English top flight, but is being considered by mutliple clubs in need of a new goalkeeper.
His contract at Ibrox is set to run until next summer, with no progress made over a new deal, meaning clubs could take advantage to lure him away.
However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Rangers have no plans to sell Butland as he remains a key part of Danny Rohl's plans.
The goalkeeper is also believed to be happy at Ibrox, where he remains the first-choice shot-stopper, despite frustrations building in recent seasons.
Could Rangers entertain offers for Jack Butland?
Football Insider revealed last summer that Rangers would reject offers for Butland after then-manager Russell Martin move to block his potential departure.
Rohl is now set to be the latest manager to prevent the goalkeeper's exit, despite eyes on him from clubs in the Premier League looking to boost their squads.
The former England international has been a regular at Ibrox, and despite some inconsistent performances, looks likely to remain the number one next season.
"Jack Butland has always been very highly regarded," Brown told Football Insider.
"There was a time when he was tipped to become England's number one goalkeeper, but those calls faded with time, and he's found himself in the team at Rangers.
"Now, there have been suggestions that he could return to England, and I'm sure there are Premier League clubs aware that he might become availbale.
"I wouldn't expect to see him starting in the Premier League wherever he goes, but there are clubs in need of a goalkeeper, or even a backup.
"He's had his issues at Rangers with consistency and a few mistakes, but overall he's been very dependable and a crucial part of their team in recent years.
"There's going to be a lot of changes taking place this summer, but I think Butland will remain as their goalkeeper, because the manager will want to keep him around.
"There are other areas of the squad Rangers have to address first, so keeping Butland around could be important, and they'll be determined to stop him leaving."
Could Rangers sign a new goalkeeper this summer?
Doubts about the long-term future of Butland at Ibrox could push Rangers into the transfer market in pursuit of a new number-one goalkeeper this summer.
While the position is unlikely to be a priority given the current options, work has begun behind the scenes to strengthen Rohl's squad as a whole.
Football Insider reported on 26 May that Rangers are preparing for a busy transfer window as Liam Kelly closes in on an agreement to extend his stay in Glasgow.
Extending Kelly's deal will allow the Ibrox club to focus their attentions elsewhere, but it will once again call Butland's future into question this summer.
A number of mistakes have crept into his game of late, and he was even replaced in the starting XI by Kelly for a spell, and a new goalkeeper could now be targeted.
