Leeds chief Paraag Marathe can pave the way for Sam Byram to complete Rangers move
Rangers should look to sign Sam Byram in the upcoming transfer window once his Leeds United contract expires.
The Gers need a new left-back to cover for Tuur Rommens after Jayden Meghoma's return to Brentford.
Danny Rohl clearly likes the former Westerlo left-back as his first-choice in the position, but the Light Blues lack depth in their defence, with James Tavernier and Max Aarons also departing.
Byram can be the perfect addition to bolster the Glaswegian outfit's backline, with the 32-year-old Englishman capable of playing on either flank.
Paraag Marathe has assured the Govan side's fans that he's still involved in the club's affairs and sees the links with Leeds as a massive opportunity for both teams in terms of recruitment.
Paraag Marathe shares Rangers and Leeds United transfer admission
Marathe has admitted there have been times when the Light Blues and Leeds have considered doing business over the last year, but the player's decision has prevailed in the end.
The 49ers Enterprises supremo stepped down as the Glaswegian outfit's vice-chairman back in February, but has clarified that he's still heavily involved with what's happening in G51.
In the American chief's admission, he raised the possibility of players moving between the Govan side and the West Yorkshire outfit in the coming months.
Speaking to YEP on 4 June, Marathe said, "There were one or two opportunities last season that would have made sense, but in the end, the player didn't want to go. But there would have been an opportunity. There could have been an opportunity, and hopefully, or maybe there is one in the future too."
Paraag Marathe association can be game-changer at Ibrox
Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers took over the Gers last summer and have since heavily invested in the squad.
Speaking to Football Insider, Aberdeen's former chief Keith Wyness believes Joe Gelhardt could be worth a gamble at Rangers.
The English striker is another Leeds player whom Marathe can possibly use his influence to sign at the Glaswegian outfit.
Byram feels like an affordable and obvious choice for the Light Blues since it's unlikely he'll be playing a starting role in the Premier League for any other club, but there may be other fringe options in West Yorkshire that Danny Rohl could look at to strengthen his squad.
While there were initial teething problems with Russell Martin, Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart, the American owners learned from their mistakes and fans in G51 have high hopes from them ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
