Luke Graham has no intention of joining FC Charlotte amid interest from Rangers ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The MLS side have reportedly held talks about signing the Dundee centre-back in the summer, but it isn't surprising to see their advances rejected.

Despite the American club's willingness to offer the Dee a significant seven-figure sum and the 22-year-old defender decent terms, he didn't want to pursue the move at this stage of his career, highlighting his ambitions.

It's clear that Graham has plans to continue playing competitive football and develop in Europe, and Ibrox feels like the right place for him.

The Gers are in desperate need of reinforcements at centre-back as Nasser Djiga and Derek Cornelius returned to their parent clubs after a season-long loan in Govan.

As things stand, the Glaswegian outfit have John Souttar and Emmanuel Fernandez as their only two natural options in the centre of defence and clearly need to add more quality in that department.

Rangers transfer update emerges on Luke Graham bid

Graham is attracting interest from the Gers and several other EFL Championship and European clubs.

Portsmouth saw their £1.5million bid for the defender turned down in January and are still in the mix to sign him in the coming weeks.

According to the Daily Record on 12 June, the Govan side have been working behind the scenes to get a deal over the line for the Dundee star and will table a proposal.

Stoke City and Lincoln City have also been credited with having the young centre-back on their radar and it will be interesting to see who will win the race for the in-demand Scot.

Ibrox hierarchy know what they must do to sign Luke Graham

Sources told Football Insider in May that Rangers will need to outbid Portsmouth to sign Graham in the summer.

Pompey have done relatively well under John Mousinho to survive relegation battles in the English Championship over the last two seasons and the 40-year-old head coach hasn't been afraid to give young players Terry Devlin and Adrian Segecic opportunities at Fratton Park.

The Glaswegian outfit will surely need to present an ambitious development plan to convince the Scottish defender that Ibrox is the right next step for his career.
