Derek McInnes 'will love' Thelo Aasgaard development at Rangers - Keith Wyness
Thelo Aasgaard has already got himself into Derek McInnes' good books at Rangers by opting to return from his post-World Cup break early.
That is according to former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that it's a "very positive" sign that the forward could have a strong season.
Aasgaard went all the way to the quarter-finals of the World Cup with Norway, but is already back at Ibrox after opting to cut his break short by 10 days.
Wyness has emphasised that McInnes will be keen to set new standards for the squad in the early stages of his reign, and will be delighted by the 24-year-old's decision.
Aasgaard arrived at Rangers with plenty of promise last summer, and notched eight goals and six assists during a mixed debut campaign north of the border.
He will have his eyes on becoming a key player under McInnes this term, and Wyness is adamant that he is already going the right way about achieving that.
Thelo Aasgaard ready to show 'complete dedication'
Aberdeen's former chief Wyness - who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004 and now runs a consultancy business advising elit clubs - believes that the Rangers squad must show "complete dedication" this term if they are to lift the Scottish Premiership title.
He made it clear that Aasgaard has now set an example for the rest of his teammates with his decision to return and begin his work early.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, he explained just how much that will have pleased McInnes.
"I think it's a great sign; Derek McInnes will love that. McInnes wants to show leadership within the club, setting standards, and I think this is exactly what he'd welcome," Wyness said.
"It's a very positive sign, and it's going to show that this is what the Rangers team has got to do. They've got to show complete dedication and professionalism.
"They've got a fight on their hands right now with Hearts and Celtic, and they're going to have to really come above and beyond in terms of trying to reclaim the title.
"The fans have been spectacular in terms of their season ticket take-up, and so it's quite right that the players have to give back and show the utmost professionalism, and I think that's a good sign from Aasgaard."
Rangers 'very lucky' after 98 per cent reveal
Wyness previously told Football Insider last week that Rangers are "very lucky" to have such strong and dedicated backing from their fans after they confirmed that season tickets for 2026-27 have now sold out.
The Light Blues reached the milestone on 9 July, seven days quicker than they managed in the previous summer.
Wyness emphasised that the Rangers fans are "absolute gold" for the club, after it was confirmed that they have also had a renewal rate of over 98 per cent among existing season ticket holders.
The Scottish businessman made it clear that season ticket sales are "absolutely crucial" to the club's finances, and noted that it is now down to the players to repay the supporters.
