How Rangers could be humiliated against Hibernian

Rangers are set to host Hibernian on Sunday as Derek McInnes finally looks to secure his first win at the club.

The Gers are winless in their first two matches of the campaign, and were embarrassed on Thursday when they were defeated 2-1 against Jagiellonia Bialystok in the first leg of the Europa League third qualifying round.

With pressure already mounting on McInnes, a win is no doubt needed at Ibrox to show the fanbase that he is the right man for the job.

However, Hibs will be no pushovers and will go into the game aiming to match a record.

After beating Rangers 2-1 in their last meeting, if they were to get three points again on Sunday, it would be the first time they have beaten the Old Firm club in back-to-back top-flight games since 2005.

Hibs have had a mixed start to the new season and lost their first game in the Scottish Premiership 2-1 against Motherwell, but did overcome Shkendija 2-1 in their first leg of the Europa Conference League third qualifying round.

Rangers out to avoid Hibs humiliation 

If Hibs were to beat Rangers on Sunday, the club and McInnes would be completely and utterly humiliated.

While the Edinburgh club are no doubt a decent outfit, this was meant to be the start of a new successful era at Ibrox, something that is yet to be shown on the pitch.

The Hibs match is by no means a must-win for the Gers, but a defeat would see supporters’ concerns grow that McInnes is just another Russell Martin.

This would be compounded by the fact that a new record could potentially be matched, according to BBC Sport, which would cause further embarrassment.

However, it remains to be seen if Rangers will actually turn up, or if it will be another terrible performance by McInnes’ men.

What is Rangers’ record against Hibs?

Overall, Rangers have a solid recent record against Hibs.

In their last five meetings, they have won three. However, they are currently winless in their last two.

At Ibrox, their record is a tad shaky, losing two of their last five matches at home against the Edinburgh side.

Therefore, a win for the Gers may not be certain going into Sunday’s match in the Scottish Premiership.
