Vanja Dragojevic work permit latest as Rangers sweat ahead of Dundee United clash

Rangers' new midfield signing Vanja Dragojevic is expected to be cleared to play for his new team ahead of their clash with Dundee United on Friday.

That is according to former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the 20-year-old will receive the necessary clearance in time to feature in the Gers' Scottish Premiership opener.

This comes after the Serbian was absent from last weekend's friendly against West Ham, due to a delay in his work permit and visa applications.

Wyness believes that there is no reason for "alarm bells" to be raised at Ibrox just yet, and expects Dragojevic to be able to play, based on his previous experiences.

The starlet only recently joined the Glasgow giants from Partizan Belgrade, as the selling club landed over £4million in transfer fees.

Dragojevic is tipped to have a huge future ahead of him, and Wyness expects he will be able to get his Rangers career up and running on Friday.

Aberdeen's former chief Wyness - who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004 and now runs a consultancy business advising elite clubs - believes that the only way Dragojevic's work permit issue won't be resolved in time is if there are any question marks over his past behaviour.

However, the Scottish businessman emphasised that there is nothing to suggest that there are any issues that could see that scenario play out.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, he clearly outlined that he expects the starlet to be cleared to play on Friday.

"I've been through this situation many times with buying foreign players, and it normally gets resolved," Wyness said.

"You'd have hoped that the club would have been able to have known that, but normally it's just waiting for processing time. Normally the lawyers can get in there and try and get it shifted in the queue somehow.

"But unless there's something that's cropped up in terms of his own unsuitability or his past behaviour, and I don't think there would be, I would expect this to be done in time for Friday. 

"So yes, I would expect him to be able to play. But it's quite common. So I wouldn't be raising alarm bells yet."

West Ham told to pull plug on John Souttar deal

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown has urged his former club to "steer well clear" of a move for Rangers centre-back John Souttar this summer.

The ex-recruitment man told Football Insider that "there is a reason" why Rangers want the defender gone, and believes he is too error-prone for the Hammers.

The East London outfit have emerged as a likely destination for Souttar, after Derek McInnes left him out of Rangers' pre-seeason tour.

McInnes and Co. are trying to force the Scotland interntional towards the exit door, but one of his most likely suitors may now pull the plug.
