Rangers supporters have demanded that the club bring back Steven Gerrard as soon as possible after their recent disastrous campaign in Europe.

The Gers’ penalty defeat against Jablonec after a 1-1 draw on aggregate has knocked the club out of the Conference League, and they will not play another European match this season.

Derek McInnes’ reign at Ibrox has been awful to date, and the defeat to the Czech side will go down as one of the most embarrassing results in their history.

Many supporters want the manager sacked, with the former Hearts boss only winning two of his first seven matches to date.

Gerrard has been heavily linked with a return to Rangers in recent years, and now fans are calling for the club to make a sensational re-appointment happen as soon as possible.

The Liverpool legend was the last manager to win the Scottish Premiership title at the Gers, which came back in 2021.

Rangers have had a hellish past few seasons.

The club have not won a trophy since 2024, and can no longer even compete in Europe.

If McInnes is sacked in the coming weeks, he will just be another in a long list of managers who have failed at Rangers in recent years, with the situation just appearing to get worse at the Old Firm club.

The last successful manager at the Gers was arguably Gerrard, who had the club competing both domestically and in Europe before he departed for Aston Villa.

As a result, supporters are now demanding his return as they look to ensure that this campaign does not end in complete failure.

How good was Gerrard at Rangers?

Gerrard’s stint at Rangers was excellent.

The manager won 64.8 per cent of his matches and won the Scottish Premiership title with ease in 2021 with 102 points.

The team he built was also outstanding, and they would go on to reach the Europa League final after his departure in November 2021.

Therefore, given the resources Rangers now have, there is every chance that Gerrard could be a huge hit at the club once again.

However, it remains to be seen if Rangers are able to attract the manager back to the club, considering the current mess they find themselves in.
