Nicolas Raskin's chances of agreeing January Rangers transfer revealed

Nicolas Raskin could agree a move away from Rangers in January after missing out this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old surprised many by remaining at Ibrox beyond the transfer deadline, with the Scottish and Turkish transfer windows having closed earlier this week.

Besiktas were the front-runners to sign the midfielder in the closing stages, but failed to reach an agreement with Rangers or the player as he opted to stay in Glasgow.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, the interest in Raskin is unlikely to fade between now and the mid-season window.

As a result, Besiktas could return with a new bid, while other suitors across Europe may step up their pursuit if circumstances change over the next couple of months.

For now, all parties are focused on helping Rangers build on their current run of form, but speculation surrounding Raskin's future is unlikely to die down in the near future.

How did Nicolas Raskin end up staying at Rangers?

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 27 August that Rangers were bracing to receive offers for Raskin in the closing days of the window.

The midfielder was subject to late offers for Besiktas, who initially discussed a loan move before making a £10.3million offer which was rejected by Rangers.

Besiktas' offer ultimately did not meet Rangers' asking price, and as a result, they were happy to hang on to Raskin at least until the mid-season window arrives.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It'll be a huge boost for Derek McInnes and everyone connected with Rangers to keep hold of Raskin.

"He's such a key player for them and will play a big part in any success they have this season, and he is still a big part of their plans.

"We'll have to wait and see what happens come January, it all depends if there's still those interested suitors for Raskin.

"You know how things go in the January window, clubs maybe realise they need a player in a certain position and then they could make a move even if they didn't in the summer.

"There's a lot of water to go under the bridge and plenty of things can change by then, but for now it's just a case of waiting and seeing.

"Between now and January, I think Rangers will be more than happy to have Raskin still around and playing a key role in Derek McInnes' side."

Which other clubs have been interested in Raskin?

Besiktas were the most high-profile club to make a move for Raskin in the summer window, but are not alone in their admiration and will face competition from elsewhere.

The midfielder enjoyed a strong World Cup with Belgium, which inspired new interest in his signature, with a number of Premier League clubs believed to have been watching.

Football Insider previously revealed that Raskin could be tempted by offers from the Premier League, and a number of clubs remain long-term admirers of his.

The likes of Tottenham, Leeds, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest have all been linked with the midfielder over the last 12 months and will continue to eye his situation.

Should he become available in January, and if teams realise they are in need of a midfielder mid-way through the season, there is every chance he could move on.
