Rangers should ideally be looking to replace Jack Butland in the upcoming transfer window.

The England international signed for the Gers in 2023 and has since largely been the number one in between the sticks at Ibrox.

There's no doubt the 33-year-old has made some massive contributions with his saves at the Light Blues, but the shot-stopper has underwhelming distribution and is error-prone, which has led to frustration among supporters.

Butland played the most minutes for Danny Rohl by a massive margin in the 2025-26 campaign, but the German manager may want to reinforce the goalkeeping department with someone comfortable with the ball at their feet.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss built a reputation on playing front-foot football at Hillsborough and it's clear that the former Crystal Palace star isn't the right fit for the system.

Danny Rohl knows what Rangers need to succeed

Rohl is aware that the Gers will need a core group of players to build the team around to succeed in the coming years.

Butland was an ever-present in the Light Blues' starting lineup last season, which arguably presents a major dilemma at Ibrox when it comes to his possible sale.

Nicolas Raskin, James Tavernier, Djeidi Gassama and Nasser Djiga are part of the top five players who played the most minutes for the Glaswegian outfit last season, highlighting an evident issue in G51.

Butland is one of the few players who consistently played for the Govan side in the previous campaign, and while Rohl surely could do with an upgrade in the position, he doesn't have many leaders to fall on in the dressing room right now.

Jack Butland must be concerned as Danny Rohl eyes summer spending spree

Sources have told Football Insider that Rangers will back Rohl in the summer with a "lot of players" set to join.

It looks like Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises are planning another significant transfer window at the Gers, with possibly multiple incomings and outgoings.

One area that should be on the Light Blues' agenda is the goalkeeping department, and Butland may have to relinquish his number one spot sooner rather than later.

If the American owners truly believe in the German manager's project at the Glaswegian outfit, they surely need to go all out in building a competitive squad to win silverware immediately.
