Rangers problem highlighted after 'somebody sent me what Graeme Souness said'

Derek McInnes will find himself under massive pressure at Rangers if he does not pull his team into form quickly.

That is the opinion of former Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The 55-year-old was appointed in the summer to replace Danny Rohl, who left to join Red Bull Salzburg.

Rangers have won none of their opening three games of the season, losing the last two to Jagiellonia Bialystok and Hibernian.

McInnes will have to get his side together quickly to face the Polish side in the second leg of their Europa League qualifier at Ibrox on Thursday, before hosting St Mirren in the League Cup.

Rangers have backed the Scot with several signings this summer, with more expected before the transfer deadline.

Rangers have 'huge' issue

McInnes spent five years at Rangers as a player, and has always intended to manage his former club one day.

The 55-year-old spent time in charge of several clubs until eventually arriving at Hearts last summer.

There, he led the unlikeliest of title challenges, with his team ultimately denied by Celtic on the final day.

Rangers were convinced and likely still are, but McInnes has a serious job on his hands now.

"Well, I think you can look at managers in all leagues, can't you? He had a wonderful season last year with Hearts," King told Football Insider.

"Hearts finished second and Rangers finished third. You've got two big clubs in Scotland, and I mean two big clubs. One of them is Celtic, the other one's Rangers.

"For him and for Rangers, you go into a club like that, the expectations are huge and you've got to produce. If you're going to Kilmarnock, you get time, don't you? You get time. You go to Rangers, you want to be up and running.

"Graeme Souness, somebody sent me a thing where he was talking about it, and he was criticising the recruitment. He was criticising the people who are running the football side of it.

"Here's a man who's managed Rangers and has been a fantastic footballer. Things have got to pick up, otherwise the pressure will be mounting very quickly."

What McInnes said after Rangers defeat

At this rate, McInnes risks emulating the horrific eight-game tenure Wilfried Nancy had in charge of Celtic last season.

The Frenchman won just two of eight, with Rangers ending his tenure at Parkhead when they won the Old Firm 3-1 in January.

"No, I'm not asking for more time,” McInnes said after Rangers were beaten by Hibernian. “I understand the frustration. I share the frustration.

"It's 15 years of frustration here at this club. Nobody knows that more than me. We’ve won one title and the fans didn't even get to see the title win.

"So we're a by-product. Every Rangers team is a by-product of that frustration. So the Rangers fans just want to see their team winning and so do I. And we will get there. It's not going to start like we wanted.

"But we all get the outcome that we're going to get. And we have to work hard and stick together in the dressing room. But do we expect it to be any different to what we got today? Not until we start winning."
