Sources: Celtic and Rangers in race to sign Michael Parker after transfer missions
Parker has shown impressive form for Swedish outfit Orgryte IS and has caught the eyes of watching scouts from both Old Firm clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old has been outstanding for Orgryte since his arrival from West Brom in February and could already be lured back to British football after five months away.
A centre-back who can also play at left-back, Parker has caught the eye of a host of European clubs, including Anderlecht, Udinese, and also Old Firm duo Celtic and Rangers.
The Old Firm duo and scouts from his other suitors are set to watch Parker in action this weekend as when the Swedish Allsvenskan returns to action, as Orgryte take on Kalmar FF.
He is under a long-term contract with the Swedish outfit in 2028, given the short time since his arrival, but clubs are hopeful that he could be lured away already.
Why are Rangers and Celtic interested in Michael Parker?
Parker has impressed watching scouts from a number of European clubs with his performances in Sweden, and those clubs are set to continue keeping tabs on him.
Interest from Rangers comes after Football Insider first revealed in March that the addition of a new centre-back has emerged as a priority for the Ibrox club this summer.
Meanwhile, Celtic are keen to step up their transfer plans under Martin O'Neill's guidance, as they eye wide-scale improvements across the pitch.
Parker is seen as an affordable target, although his club will be reluctant to see him leave just months after completing his signing from West Brom, where he struggled to break through.
Both clubs have had scouts monitoring the the Swedish Allsvenskan, and the centre-back has caught the eye, with more impressive performances potentially triggering a move.
Rangers may have opened the door for Celtic to sign Parker
Given the interest from both Old Firm clubs, it may prove difficult for Rangers to compete after their rivals' title success while they ultimately finished third.
Meanwhile, the Ibrox club's transfer activity may have opened the door for Celtic to swoop, after the confirmed the signing of former Everton defender Ben Godfrey.
Rangers have been eyeing multiple improvements at the heart of their defence, and while Godfrey is a versatile option, he would represent the first of those deals.
They have also been keen on a move to sign Dundee star Luke Graham, as Football Insider revealed on 23 June that Rangers could firm up their interest in the coming days.
Those deals could pave the way for Celtic to move for Parker, and while Rangers' interest and that of their European rivals remains strong, they are keeping a close eye on the situation.
