Sources: Rangers' updated stance on January signings revealed
Rangers are prepared to act in the January transfer window if they are forced into a big sale, sources have told Football Insider.
Derek McInnes is believed to be happy with the shape of his squad as things stand, especially following a recent upturn in results ahead of the frustrating draw with Dundee.
However, there are concerns that the Ibrox club could be at risk of losing players in the January transfer window as rival clubs continue to keep tabs on their top performers.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Rangers believe they did good work in the summer window but could already be set to lose players.
The likes of Olwethu Makhanya and Kim Min-su have already been tipped for eventual moves to the Premier League, with the former attracting high-profile interest from England.
While Rangers are reluctant to lose any of their big names, and will make efforts to keep them at the club, they will be forced to enter the market if big sales go through.
What are Rangers' plans for the January window?
Football Insider revealed on 16 October that Rangers are expecting a quiet January transfer window but are prepared to act if they are forced to make a move.
Potential injuries or major dips in form could force the club to act, while significant sales would push them into the market, although they are currently considered unlikely.
McInnes is happy with his squad as things stand and has no plans to entertain any big-name sales, but big offers could tempt the club to accept, and force them to pursue a replacement.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Rangers aren't expecting much activity in January unless they are forced into the market.
"That could happen, whether it's through injuries or because of the growing interest in some of their top players, who clubs could make moves for when the window opens.
"They've made some good additions to the squad in the summer transfer window, so that means they're in a good place and not thinking about any new signings in January.
"But some of those players are already attracting interest, and if Rangers have to sell any of them for whatever reason, if a big offer comes in, then they may have to consider it.
"Any major departures would obviously mean they had to enter the market for a replacement, but as things stand, there are no plans for that to happen in January."
Which Rangers players could leave in January?
Rangers have had a mixed start to the season so far, with a recent run of positive displays inspiring a positive outlook, particularly with regard to their new signings.
Those performances, however, have placed rival clubs from across Europe on alert with clubs now keeping a close eye on their progress with a potential future move in mind.
For example, Football Insider revealed on 13 October that Premier League duo Bournemouth and Sunderland have sent scouts to keep tabs on Makhanya's displays.
The South Africa international is already attracting plenty of interest from clubs in both Italy and Spain alongside the English clubs after his £3million move to Ibrox in the summer.
However, any move in January would cost an extortionate fee, likely in excess of the Scottish record sale of £25million, with Rangers determined to keep hold of their star man.
