Rangers' chances of agreeing 'big' Vaclav Cerny deal revealed
Rangers believe that a headline move to re-sign former star Vaclav Cerny may be out of reach for them this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Gers have continually been linked with their former star since the beginning of the summer, but are likely to see the Besiktas man elude them.
The Turkish giants are not actively looking to sell the Czech star, who is also not necessarily angling for a move away.
Sources have indicated that Rangers believe that it would be a "big" deal as well as a "big stretch" for their finances to be able to sign Cerny, who is on a lucrative contract at Besiktas.
The Ibrox outfit are still contemplating a move for the 28-year-old in the final stages of the window, but are aware that it is becoming increasingly difficult for them to get a deal done.
Cerny has started the season in positive form for Besiktas, and already has two goals and one assist from his opening seven games.
Rangers will struggle to break the bank for Vaclav Cerny
Cerny became a firm favourite during his loan spell at Rangers back in 2024-25, when he notched 18 goals and nine assists in all competitions.
A return to Ibrox would undoubtedly be an immensely popular move in the eyes of the supporters, but the club remain sceptical as to whether it could actually happen.
Derek McInnes is still hoping to add several more new faces to his squad before the upcoming deadline on 3 September.
However, a significant financial commitment for a player like Cerny would certainly have an effect on the Gers' ability to complete further business.
Recent reports have suggested that Rangers have held talks with Besiktas over a deal, but there has been little progress made since their initial interest at the start of the summer.
Rangers plan to accelerate for Kevin Kelsy
Football Insider revealed last weekend that Rangers are ready to accelerate towards a deal for Portland Timbers striker Kevin Kelsy this week.
The Gers are desperate to secure a new striker after the recent injury to Youssef Chermiti, and Kelsy is a player they are having a "close look" at right now.
The 22-year-old is enjoying a strong season in the MLS, with nine goals and two assists to his name from 20 league games so far this term.
Kelsy is a clear target for Rangers in the final week of the window, but they are running out of time to secure his signature.
