Rangers 'expecting' to sign 'two players for the price of one'

expRangers are hoping to sign two midfielders "for the price of one" if Nicolas Raskin departs the club.

That is according to former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Light Blues are ready to put their "trading model" to the test if the Belgian leaves.

Villarreal are working on a deal to sign the 25-year-old at the moment, with Rangers understood to be in the final stages of their move to sign Vanja Dragojevic from Partizan Belgrade.

Wyness believes that the 49ers are operating in "exactly" the right market when it comes to their move for the 21-year-old, and are also on the right lines with Jens Hjerto-Dahl.

The Ibrox outfit have been heavily linked with the Tromso starlet in recent weeks, but are now facing a potential hijack from Cardiff City.

Wyness believes that any exit for Raskin will see two new midfielders come in, and still believes there is a chance that Hjerto-Dahl could be the second.

Aberdeen's former chief Wyness - who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004 and now runs a consultancy business advising elite clubs - believes that Rangers must look to repeat their Raskin plan in future if it proves to be successful.

The Scottish businessman has urged the Glasgow giants to improve their transfer business on several occasions in recent months, and feels that shopping for young European talent outside top leagues is the perfect market for them.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, he outlined that he would be hugely impressed if Rangers could get Dragojevic and Hjerto-Dahl in as Raskin's replacements.

"If they can get them both in, it's exactly the model the 49ers have got to work on," Wyness said.

"It's what we've been talking about for the last few months. They've got to get back to selling an older player, bringing in two young ones and bringing them through and selling them at profit.

"That's exactly the trading model Rangers have got to do. It's very important for them to do that, and this would be an example of getting it right if they can get it across the line. 

"What I'd be expecting is to bring in two for the price of one if you like, but at the right age and with a chance to sell on down the road as well. It's what Rangers have got to do continually, and they've really got to work this hard. 

"It's a promising sign if they can start to get these sorts of things hopefully across the line."

Wyness previously told Football Insider that Rangers are "very lucky" to have such strong and reliable support after their fanbase sold out their season tickets for next season.

Season ticket sales were completed one whole week quicker than last summer, and the club once again boasted an impressive renewal rate of over 98 per cent.

Wyness emphasised that season ticket sales are "absolutely crucial" to a club's finances, and acknowledged that Rangers must now be sure to repay the fans' faith with some big signings.

If the Gers can get their moves for Dragojevic and Hjerto-Dahl over the line, it would leave the supporters with plenty to be excited about.
