Rangers have been handed a warning not to sign Kevin Kelsy this summer after his poor performance in Portland Timbers’ 2-1 defeat to Chicago Fire on Sunday.

The striker has been heavily linked with a move to Ibrox in recent weeks after Youseff Chermiti picked up an ACL injury.

Reports have emerged that Rangers have submitted a £7.5million offer for the attacker as they look to reinforce their frontline.

Kelsy has had an excellent season in the MLS to date, and has netted nine times overall in the division.

However, in recent weeks, his form has begun to dip, and he has now only netted once in four matches.

On Sunday, his performance against Chicago Fire was alarming, with the striker producing many poor stats.

If Rangers are to get their season back on track, reinforcements up top are no doubt needed.

Chermiti’s injury is a huge blow for McInnes, and with only a couple weeks of the transfer window left, Rangers need to make sure they get any final deals right.

However, Kelsy’s performance on Sunday has now provided a massive warning to Rangers.

According to Fotmob on 17 August, the striker failed to hit the target with either of his two efforts on goal, only had a 0.18 xG, had a 0.58 xA, created zero chances, did not complete his one attempted dribble, was dispossessed once and made zero defensive contributions.

Therefore, this type of display should be setting alarm bells off at Ibrox, especially when considering that Rangers have had rotten luck when it comes to signing MLS players in recent times.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the club go through with the transfer in the coming weeks.

Who else could Rangers sign this summer?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Rangers have no intention of re-signing James Tavernier this summer.

There has been speculation in recent days as to whether the 34-year-old could yet move back to Ibrox.

However, the former captain is not considered an option as it stands.

Tavernier currently has interest from clubs in Turkey and is now hoping to move on with his career in the final weeks.

Nevertheless, Rangers are still searching for a new right-back in the final weeks of the transfer window.
