Lorent Tolaj is set to command a £5million fee this summer as Rangers plot a move to prise him from Plymouth Argyle.

Tolaj ended the League One campaign in red-hot form as he registered six goals and four assists in Plymouth’s final eight games.

He was unable to fire them to the play-offs, however, and is now expected to leave Home Park in the coming months as several clubs eye a move for his services.

Rangers are one of the sides considering a bid, but as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, they will have to stump up at least £5m for the 24-year-old.

He has been added to Rangers’ transfer shortlist, but it remains to be seen if they are willing to spend such a fee on a third-tier player.

Plymouth to demand around £5m from Rangers for Tolaj

Sources have previously revealed to Football Insider that Celtic are interested in Tolaj, so a bidding war between Scotland's two biggest clubs could commence in the coming months.

Several English Championship teams also have the Swiss striker on their radar, but Plymouth are not set to be held to ransom despite remaining in League One for next season.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It won't be a cheap deal to do. Plymouth will be looking for around £5m for the player because he is under contract until 2029.

"That price tag would make it a difficult deal to do for Rangers, as well as the intense competition for his signature."

Rangers ready to snub a permanent move for Andreas Skov Olsen

Skov Olsen arrived on loan at Rangers from Wolfsburg in January, with an £8m option-to-buy included in the deal.

The Danish winger has struggled to make an impact under Danny Rohl, however, with one goal and three assists in nine appearances as he was left on the bench for their derby defeat to Celtic on Sunday.

Sources have told Football Insider that Rangers have no plans to buy Skov Olsen and he will return to Germany when the Premiership season ends.

They intend to spend the £8m on other areas of Rohl's squad, with Tolaj a potential alternative signing for the funds to be used on.
