Sources: Rangers ‘hopeful’ of landing Couhaib Driouech with improved offer

Rangers are "hopeful" that they are about to get their move for PSV Eindhoven winger Couhaib Driouech over the line, sources have told Football Insider.

The 24-year-old has emerged as a top target for the Gers, who have already seen a £6million bid rejected, as per reports in the Netherlands. 

Rangers are desperate to add to their wide options ahead of the 1 September deadline, and Driouech is understood to be towards the top of their shortlist.

Sources have indicated that the Glasgow giants were not far away from PSV’s valuation with their opening offer, and are now closing in on a deal to take the wideman to Ibrox.

Their pursuit of the Moroccan remains a key priority, with the lack of depth on the flanks seen as a big issue at the moment.. 

Driouech notched nine goals and eight assists for PSV last season, but is facing an uncertain future at the moment.

Rangers boasted strong options on the wings last term, with Tottenham loanee Mikey Moore quickly establishing himself as one of their key players.

They have since lost out on the chance to take the 18-year-old back for another season, which has forced them to look elsewhere. 

Driouech has been identified as an impressive candidate to add to the wide options, after an eye-catching season for PSV last time out. 

He also boasts strong experience in the Champions League, and managed five goal involvements from just seven games in the competition last term.

Rangers are not giving up on their pursuit of the Moroccan, and are now closing in on a deal to potentially make him their tenth new addition of the summer.

Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider last weekend that McInnes’ recent interview calling out the need for new signings had “absolutely no point to it.”

The former boardroom man believes it is “stupid” when managers make their transfer grievances public, and feels that it is nothing more than a gesture for the fans. 

The Scottish businessman stressed that McInnes should have had those conversations in private with the club hierarchy, rather than airing his concerns in public view. 

Wyness also acknowledged that the club would already have had their plans in place for the remainder of the window, and McInnes’ words will have done little to alter them at all.
