Vaclav Cerny's year away from Rangers assessed with Ibrox return now on the cards

Rangers could potentially be making a move to sign Vaclav Cerny from Besiktas in the ongoing transfer window.

The Gers have been mooted to bring the Czechia international back to Govan after an impressive season on loan, where he scored 12 goals and provided four assists in the William Hill Premiership.

Last summer, the Light Blues decided against making the winger's transfer from VfL Wolfsburg permanent and he eventually moved to Turkiye for around £6million.

Cerny is now being linked with a return to Ibrox after a mixed campaign with Besiktas, scoring five goals and providing eight assists in 30 Super Lig appearances.

While the 28-year-old has enjoyed regular game time at Besiktas Park, he clearly hasn't hit the heights he did at the Glaswegian outfit.

Vincenzo Italiano was recently appointed as the Istanbul club's new manager after leaving Bologna and the attacker might not have a place in the Italian manager's plans next season.

Rangers have Vaclav Cerny transfer opportunity

It wouldn't be surprising to see the Gers try to get a deal over the line to sign Cerny from Besiktas in the summer.

That's what Keith Jackson believes and speaking on Hotline Live on 14 June, the Daily Record journalist said, "My exclusive, I would not be the slightest bit surprised if Rangers are looking at doing a deal with Besiktas to get Cerny this summer. One of the biggest mistakes that Rangers made last summer was not signing Cerny. And that might be something they look to correct over the summer."

According to Turkiye Gazetesi on 14 June, the Czechia international is preparing to leave Besiktas and Italiano is ready to sanction his departure.

The Istanbul club finished fourth in the league during the 2025-26 campaign and didn't take part in Europe after being knocked out of the Europa League and Conference League qualifiers.

The Glaswegian outfit could certainly do with a goal threat like the Besiktas winger on their wings, and fans in G51 will undoubtedly embrace him with open arms.
