Connor Barron looks set to benefit if Danny Rohl leaves Rangers for RB Salzburg after a mixed season under his guidance.

New reports have claimed that the Austrian side are keen on appointing Rohl with immediate effect.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Salzburg are pushing to make him their new manager and he is open to returning to the Red Bull group.

Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Rohl endured a tough campaign at Ibrox after succeeding Russell Martin last October.

He was only able to lead the Gers to a third-placed finish in the Scottish Premiership, while they crashed out of the Europa League in the league stage.

Versatile midfielder Barron struggled for regular game time under Rohl and may well be glad to see him linked away ahead of next season.

The 23-year-old could be in line for more minutes if another manager arrives at Ibrox and realises his lofty potential.

Connor Barron to be happy if Danny Rohl chooses to leave Rangers

Barron joined Rangers from Aberdeen in 2024 after establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premiership outside of the Old Firm clubs.

He featured 46 times in all competitions during the 2024-25 campaign, with 23 starts in Premiership matches in a turbulent season at Ibrox.

Barron struggled for minutes throughout 2025-26, especially under Rohl, as he preferred the likes of Tochi Chukwuani, Nico Raskin and Mo Diomande from the off.

The German boss was not quick enough to bring Barron back into the fold after he recovered from a knee injury in March, even though he showed some impressive form before being sidelined.

The Scotland international was dropped in key post-split matches against Motherwell and Hearts, and Rohl only started him in the final few games when Rangers had nothing but pride to play for.

Barron ended the season with impressive passing, chances created, dribbling and tackles per 90 stats in Premiership games, and was clearly underused by Rohl as he played 500 less minutes than the previous term.

He will surely be secretly excited about the possibility of the Gers manager moving on to pastures new, with a new manager likely to hand him a bigger role next season.

Which player will be annoyed at Rohl potentially leaving Rangers?

Belgium international Raskin has been a key part of Rohl's side despite their relationship getting off to a rocky start last year.

The 25-year-old midfielder's professionalism was being questioned earlier in the campaign, but he transformed under Rohl to become a regular in the Gers' starting eleven once more.

Rangers 'bracing' for Nicolas Raskin offers as Danny Rohl's one-more-year plan revealed

Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Rohl would do everything to keep Raskin at Rangers this summer amid widespread links away.

Raskin praised his training methods and clearly enjoyed playing under the German boss last term, but now could be set to leave under a new boss.
