20 Best Strikers in World Football Ranked
Strikers have enjoyed a resurgence in importance over recent years, with many world-class stars plying their trade as the focal point of their teams right now.
The role of the centre-forward was always very simple - get in the box and score as many goals as possible.
Nowadays, strikers are relied on to win the ball back, create chances for their teammates, and score when the opportunity is there.
Several of the biggest names in football are ruling the roost up top as it stands, with numerous in the running for this year's Ballon d'Or.
Using factors such as goals scored and created in recent seasons, as well as individual and team feats achieved, Football Insider have conjured up a list of the best 20 strikers in world football right now.
20. Robert Lewandowski (Chicago Fire, Poland)
Lewandowski needs no introduction as he kicks off this list in 20th place. The Polish icon remains one of the top marksmen in the world, even at 38 years old and in his dotage. He recently joined Chicago Fire to see out his career in the MLS after four goal-strewn seasons as a Barcelona starter.
The veteran forward bagged 19 goals in 46 appearances and just 26 starts for Barca last term, while he has started in fine form for the Fire out in North America. He is Poland's leading all-time appearance holder and goalscorer, while he recently bagged the seventh hat-trick of his international career in a Nations League win over Romania. The two-time European Golden Shoe winner should always be on this list as long as he is still active.
19. Ante Budimir (Osasuna, Croatia)
Budimir is perhaps the most underrated and unexpected name on this list, but his impressive La Liga statistics simply speak for themselves. He outscored the likes of Lamine Yamal, Vinicius Junior and Lewandowski with 17 league strikes last season. The Croatian international is already among the leading marksmen in this campaign, with six in eight appearances.
He has been consistently excellent in front of goal for the lowly Spanish side for several years now, scoring 21 goals in 38 La Liga games in 2024-25 and 17 in 33 in the previous campaign too. He may well be a late bloomer at 35, but it is certainly fair to say that Budimir holds his own as one of the best strikers right now.
18. Patrik Schick (Bayer Leverkusen, Czechia)
Schick’s longevity as a consistent source of goals in the Bundesliga should not be understated, as it lands him a spot on this list. The 30-year-old has scored 95 goals in 176 top flight appearances in Germany since joining RB Leipzig in 2019. 85 of those have been for Leverkusen, with 16 in 28 league games last season.
He is a classic target man, but also likes to back into defenders and link up play to impressive effect. Schick played a key role in Leverkusen’s unbeaten Bundesliga campaign under Xabi Alonso and is his country’s most important attacking figure, as well as their standout player of a generation.
17. Viktor Gyokeres (Arsenal, Sweden)
The much-maligned Swede is experiencing a tough time right now, yet he has shown in recent seasons that he can score goals for fun for both club and country. Gyokeres broke all kinds of records in Portugal as he plundered home 97 goals in 102 Sporting CP appearances between 2023 and 2025.
He scored some key goals for Arsenal too last season, following a £55million move, and more than played his part as they lifted a long-awaited Premier League title. Gunners fans are wanting a little bit more from him as it stands, although he has continued to shine on the international stage with four goals in as many Nations League matches in October.
16. Ollie Watkins (Al-Hilal, England)
Watkins has been one of the most consistent goalscorers in the Premier League since the start of this decade, bagging 91 goals in 221 appearances in the top flight for Aston Villa. He scored 21 times in 55 appearances across all competitions last term as they won the Europa League, while a summer departure was met with anger as he swapped the Second City for Saudi Arabia.
The England international has continued his fine form from the end of last season to fire Al-Hilal to the top of the Saudi Pro League as it stands. His movement in the box is only matched by a select few strikers in the game.
15. Alexander Isak (Liverpool, Sweden)
It may appears a relatively low ranking for Liverpool star Isak, which ultimately reflects the tough 12 months he has been put through since making a huge British-record £125m move to Anfield from Newcastle. He is certainly one of the best in the world in his position when fit, but that has not been too often in a red shirt. Isak scored just four goals in 22 appearances last season.
The Swede returned to full fitness to show some semblance of form at the World Cup, and has started this campaign well by matching his tally for 2025-26 in just five Premier League games so far. More injuries are set to affect his season once again, however, with Isak needing to shake those issues to fully prove his worth on Merseyside.
14. Deniz Undav (Stuttgart, Germany)
Undav has taken some huge strides forward as Stuttgart’s main marksman in the last three full seasons, becoming one of the world’s premier multifaceted strikers who combines goalscoring instincts with creativity to beat opponents. He has registered 57 goals and 35 assists in 92 appearances for the club since 2023.
Only two players have bagged more than the German international (47) in the Bundesliga over the last three full seasons. He led the line well for his country at the World Cup too, with three goals and two assists in four appearances. Stuttgart have gone from relegation battlers to perennial European qualifiers since his arrival, with Undav firmly in the conversation among the best centre-forwards in the world.
13. Kai Havertz (Arsenal, Germany)
The second Arsenal player on this list, Havertz is clearly Mikel Arteta’s preferred striker and has repaid the faith shown in him with countless impressive performances in recent seasons. He has changed his game from being a second striker who wanted to link play together in Germany to now leading the line as a dominant force in a Premier League-winning team.
Havertz’s goal record is not as strong as others, with seven in 24 last season and 15 in 36 in the term previous, but you do not play regularly as Arsenal’s centre-forward and struggle to hold your own. He does the dirty work in attack to bring teammates into play and create passing lanes for eventual goals, while also chipping in when needed at crucial times too. The 27-year-old also remains key for his country after scoring three times at the recent World Cup.
12. Donyell Malen (Roma, Netherlands)
Malen is one of the hottest properties in world football right now, and is a recent inclusion on this list after tearing up Serie A in 2026. The Dutch forward often found himself as the bridesmaid at Dortmund and Villa, but is now loving life as Roma’s primary source of goals.
He bagged 14 goals in 18 league appearances for the Italian capital club following a loan switch in January, earning a place in the Serie A Team of the Year despite only playing up front under Gian Piero Gasperini for half a season. He has carried that form over into 2026-27, tearing defences apart with pace to burn, intelligent movement and clinical finishing.
11. Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray, Nigeria)
Osimhen retains status as a leader among his positional peers despite playing in a less fashionable league right now for Galatasaray. The 27-year-old has scored 65 goals in 80 games for the Turkish side since 2024, firing them to successive Super Lig titles.
Often linked with bigger moves after also scoring 26 goals in 32 league games for Napoli during their historic Serie A success in 2023, it still feels like the best could be yet to come for the Nigerian international. He scored four times at the recent AFCON and remains a regular goal-getter at international level too.
10. Marcus Thuram (Inter, France)
Inter would likely not have tasted such success in recent years without a striker like Thuram, who is content to not always be the main man in attack but makes decisive contributions in big moments. He has scored 13 goals in each of their last two Serie A-winning campaigns, with 14 more as they finished second in 2024-25.
The burly, physically dominant marksman can be devastating in front of goal if given time to pick his spot, and is a regular in the France national team squad as a result of the different attributes he brings to the fore. He remains a huge part of the Inter side and already has several goal contributions to start this season off strongly.
9. Joao Pedro (Chelsea, Brazil)
Pedro could work his way up this list in several years to come, as he is the youngest player to earn a place at still only 25 years old. He has long felt destined to become one of the leading centre-forwards in the world after impressing as a teenager at Watford. The Brazilian star shot to stardom at Brighton and is continuing to shine at Chelsea as they chase success under Xabi Alonso.
He registered 23 goals and six assists in 53 appearances for the Blues last season, impressing in several different competitions. Pedro already has 12 goal contributions in eight appearances this season and is one of the most in-form players on the planet. The sky is surely the limit for his talents.
8. Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund, Guinea)
Guirassy is one of the most underrated strikers in the world, and has been for some time now. The 30-year-old is a powerful specimen of a forward who thrives in the penalty area and utilises his aerial threat to fantastic effect in the Bundesliga and Champions League. He earned the Golden Boot in the 2024-25 version of the latter competition, scoring 13 goals in 14 games.
He is a regular scorer in Germany, with over 16 goals in each of the last three campaigns for Dortmund and former club Stuttgart. Trophies are the only thing he lacks, but the Guinean star is maximising his talents in the Bundesliga and has carved out a fantastic career that deserves more respect than many owe it.
7. Julian Alvarez (Atletico Madrid, Argentina)
Alvarez might not have done his career any favours by making enemies at Atletico Madrid, but he was only in such high demand over the summer because he is one of the best strikers in world football. The Argentine marksman knew he needed to leave Man City in 2024 to become a real force in the game of his own accord.
He has since scored regularly for the Madrid club in recent seasons, including a 10-goal haul in 15 Champions League appearances in 2025-26. He has all the attributes of an outstanding striker, with composure, wicked finishing ability, vision for a killer pass and silky dribbling skills.
6. Lautaro Martinez (Inter, Argentina)
Martinez leads the line with outstanding distinction for club and country, and has been doing so for quite some time now. He has established himself as one of Inter’s greatest players in the modern era, winning two Serie A Golden Boot awards, one league MVP award and three titles since arriving in 2018.
The World Cup winner is Inter’s third-highest goalscorer of all time and is one of just three players to score at least 20 league goals in three consecutive seasons for the club. He won his second Capocannoniere last term with 17 strikes in 30 Serie A appearances. Martinez loves to pop up with decisive goals and is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world right now.
5. Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad, Spain)
One club man Oyarzabal is everything a modern striker should be. He scores consistently, provides selfless work for the team by pressing defences and brings others into play by drifting out wide to create space. It is no coincidence that Spain have won back-to-back major trophies since he became their first-choice number nine, with a scoring rate of almost one in two in over 60 games for his country.
The Sociedad legend has bagged double figures in La Liga on five separate occasions, and has a knack for scoring decisive goals, with strikes in six different finals for club and country over the years, including Euro 2024. Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has called him “a great among the greats”, perhaps a nod to his underrated work in some top La Roja sides of recent times.
4. Ousmane Dembele (PSG, France)
The reigning Ballon d’Or winner has been reinvented as a striker under Luis Enrique, and found the best form of his career in the process. Dembele was once a tricky winger who lacked output, with many unsure if he would ever realise his true potential as a generational talent.
He registered 33 goals and 13 assists in 49 games during 2024-25 to ultimately be recognised as the best player in the world for that campaign. The French star is a central forward in the literal sense, given that he lines up in the middle but often floats around the pitch strutting his stuff. Another 34 goal contributions in 44 games followed last season as PSG went back-to-back in the Champions League and he scored the key equaliser in the final.
3. Erling Haaland (Man City, Norway)
Haaland finds the back of the net with a frequency that defies belief and description. He is the best striker in the Premier League and has been ever since he arrived at Man City in 2022. The Norway star holds the record for the most goals across a 38-game PL campaign after bagging 36 in his debut campaign, with City also winning the treble.
He became the fastest player to reach 50 Champions League goals last season too, in 49 games, and is Norway’s all-time leading scorer by some way. The 26-year-old is an all-time great of football, let alone the Premier League, with the effortless way he decimates defences a sight to behold. Scoring is so natural to him it is almost untrue.
2. Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid, France)
Mbappe finishes a very close second on this list, with many likely content to place him top of the best strikers in the world right now. He scores goals at an insane rate and often carries both Real Madrid and France to wins and silverware all by himself. He became the World Cup’s all-time leading goalscorer over the summer, winning the Golden Boot with 10 strikes.
The 27-year-old is PSG and France’s all-time leading marksman, while he also has the most goals in World Cup finals, with four. His sheer explosiveness is enough to scare any defender in the world, so having devastating finishing and otherworldly composure in his arsenal almost feels like cheating. He could very easily be considered the greatest pure striker of all-time by the time his career ends.
1. Harry Kane (Bayern Munich, England)
As one of the leading contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, Kane must be regarded as the number one centre-forward in the game right now. The English captain, all-time top scorer and joint-top appearance-maker, picked up the European Golden Shoe for 2025-26 after scoring a whopping 64 goals in 56 appearances for Bayern.
He has started the new campaign on fire, as many could have predicted, and could enjoy the crowning moment of his career at 33 years old if his achievements are recognised with the biggest individual trophy of all. He may still have the all-time Premier League scoring record in his sights, with many expecting him to continue scoring at such an indescribable rate for several years to come. Kane combines elite predatory instincts in front of goal with incredible vision and movement to earn his place as the best and most well-rounded striker in the world.
