Football valuations have surged through the roof in recent years as clubs spend as much as ever in pursuit of success.

The sport has come a long way since Giuseppe Savoldi became the first million-pound player in world football history in 1975.

Players regularly move for over £100m nowadays, with finances under the spotlight as football seemingly becomes less and less sustainable.

The vast majority of stars that feature for the biggest and best clubs are worth even more than that figure, especially given their long contracts and potential to get even better.

With help from Transfermarkt, the player valuation specialists, Football Insider has identified the most valuable players in the world and ranked them from numbers 30 to one.

30. Ayyoub Bouaddi (Man City) - £76million

Man City seemingly slightly overpaid for Bouaddi when they splashed out an initial £81.4m on his services in August. The teenage midfield starlet shone for Lille last season and was a standout in the World Cup for Morocco.

He signed a five-year contract at City ahead of this campaign and is currently in the running to be named 2026 Golden Boy after a standout last 12 months. Bouaddi has started slowly at the Etihad, but will hope to form a key part of their midfield for years to come despite financial charges looming large.

29. Ousmane Dembele (PSG) - £85m

Current Ballon d'Or holder Dembele is among the best players in the world right now, but likely ranks low on this valuation list because he will turn 30 by the end of this season and is out of contract at PSG in 2028.

The French star cemented his place as one of the biggest stars of his generation with another starring role in PSG's successive Champions League success in 2025-26. He remains a key asset to the French giants and may well extend his deal soon.

28. Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool) - £85m

Szoboszlai shone throughout the last campaign, with 25 goal contributions in 53 appearances from central midfield for Liverpool. He is regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League right now and won the Reds' Player of the Season award for 2025-26.

The Hungarian star could see his valuation rise even further as he enters his prime in the coming seasons, with Liverpool unlikely to want to cash in on his services, as his contract remains valid until 2031.

27. William Saliba (Arsenal) - £85m

Arsenal star Saliba was key to their recent Premier League success and has been one of the best centre-backs in the world for several seasons. He is one of just two players in the position to make this list, and is considered untouchable at the Emirates.

The Frenchman signed a new five-year contract extension with the Gunners in September 2025, so they are protected if any club wishes to try and prise him from North London soon. He is aiming to earn a place in the PFA PL Team of the Year for a fifth successive season as it stands.

26. Joao Pedro (Chelsea) - £85m

Pedro is one of Chelsea's leading lights as they enter a new era under Xabi Alonso. He cost the club around £60m in 2025 after two impressive seasons at Brighton. The Brazilian's value has continued to skyrocket at Stamford Bridge.

He scored 23 goals in all competitions in his debut season for the Blues, but inexplicably missed out on a place in Brazil's World Cup squad. Pedro is under contract at Chelsea until 2034 after signing an extension in August.

25. Moises Caicedo (Chelsea) - £85m

Caicedo became the most expensive player in British football history when he joined Chelsea from Brighton for £115m in 2023. His value has risen overall since then, but is actually down from this time last year after his struggle for form over the last 12 months.

He is still among the highest-valued defensive midfielders in the world right now, after Chelsea added another two years onto his contract in April 2026 to tie him down at Stamford Bridge until 2033.

24. Bradley Barcola (Liverpool) - £85m

Liverpool splashed a guaranteed £106m on Barcola in August to bolster Andoni Iraola’s forward line tenfold. The French attacker felt that he needed to leave PSG to become a bigger star elsewhere, and could quickly end up as one of the leading stars of the Premier League.

Barcola signed a five-year deal at Anfield and was the second-most expensive signing in their history. The Reds may have overpaid slightly to secure his services, but will feel like his potential to be special was worth matching PSG’s lofty price tag, with his valuation surely set to rise even further soon.

23. Arda Guler (Real Madrid) - £85m

Real Madrid paid just £17m to land then-18-year-old Guler from Fenerbahce in 2023, and have since reaped the rewards as he progresses well on and off the pitch. The Turkish starlet’s valuation has increased tremendously ever since, becoming a regular starter in the Madrid midfield over the last 12 months.

Guler is still in the early stages of his career, but is already a world-renowned midfielder with even bigger heights to reach in the coming years. Real are reportedly working on extending his contract past 2029 to 2031 as it stands.

22. Pau Cubarsi (Barcelona) - £85m

The highest-ranked centre-back on this list, Cubarsi is still a teenager and could well become an all-time great over the rest of his career. He is already a multiple La Liga winner and was vital to Spain’s 2026 World Cup triumph too.

Much like several defenders that came before him in Catalonia, it is entirely viable that Cubarsi spends the vast majority of his playing days at Barcelona, rendering his ever-growing valuation pretty pointless. They will have no plans to part ways anytime soon, as he is under contract until 2029.

21. Julian Alvarez (Atletico Madrid) - £93m

It looked for all the world like Alvarez would leave Atletico ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, but he remains in the Spanish capital for now. Reports have claimed that they want around £100m to agree to sell the Argentine striker, which would be seen as overpaying, as per Transfermarkt’s current valuation.

Alvarez has been one of the best strikers in the world since he joined Man City and helped fire them to a historic treble in 2022-23. The World Cup winner remains under contract with Atletico until 2030.

20. Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) - £93m

Arsenal and England star Saka signed a new contract at the Emirates Stadium in February 2026 to tie down his future at the club until 2030. He is reportedly the club’s highest-paid star as it stands and is soon set to enter his prime years as a player.

It seems unlikely that he leaves his boyhood club anytime soon, particularly after struggling for form across an extended period despite their recent success. Saka’s value has dropped as a result of those woes, having reached a peak of £127m in 2024 and 2025.

19. Cole Palmer (Chelsea) - £93m

Another Englishman who has seen his valuation drop over the last 18 months is Chelsea playmaker Palmer, following a tough spell of form that saw him miss out on the World Cup. Palmer has returned to form in 2026-27 but must avoid injury woes to see his value rise back above the £100m mark soon.

Chelsea extended his deal at the start of October, with Palmer now tied down at Stamford Bridge until 2034 on improved terms, having last signed a new deal in 2024.

18. Fermin Lopez (Barcelona) - £93m

Fermin Lopez

Despite not being a regular starter for Barcelona in 2025-26, Lopez retains a lofty value that more reflects the player that he may become in the next few years. He was surprisingly not part of Spain’s World Cup-winning squad despite registering 30 goal contributions in the previous campaign.

Lopez has attracted reported interest from the likes of Chelsea and Man United in recent times, but they would have to fork out a mighty fee to prise him from Camp Nou. He remains under contract at Barca until 2031.

17. Rayan Cherki (Man City) - £93m

Cherki’s valuation has risen a fair bit since he joined Man City – his Transfermarkt value was less than half of its current amount in September 2025. The dynamic French star is one of the most exciting players to watch in the world and is fronting the Citizens’ latest title challenge.

City handed him a five-year deal until 2030 when he arrived from Lyon, and will not be keen to lose his services despite the uncertainty looming over their future. Another club could seal a bargain if they are forced into several high-profile sales.

16. Declan Rice (Arsenal) - £101m

Rice is the latest of Arsenal’s crop of top stars to make this list, and is one of the older players to retain such a huge value in the world, at 27. He remains a key part of Mikel Arteta’s side and plans for more success going forward.

The Gunners smashed their club record to sign Rice from West Ham for £100m in 2023. His price tag has barely diminished in that time, with the England star’s current deal set to expire in 2028.

15. Enzo Fernandez (Man City) - £101m

City spent a Premier League record-equalling £125m to sign Fernandez from Chelsea in September, but they may have been forced to overpay to get the deal done on Deadline Day, as his Transfermarkt valuation sits a fair bit lower than that fee.

The Argentine star is one of the best central midfielders in the world and leads his compatriots in terms of current market value. City have him under contract until 2031 as he looks to leave a lasting legacy in the Premier League.

14. Morgan Rogers (Chelsea) - £101m

Chelsea needed to sell Fernandez after making Rogers the most expensive British player ever by signing him for £117m from Aston Villa. The England forward enjoyed a standout few seasons in the Second City prior to the move.

Transfermarkt again believe that he is not quite worth such a fee, with Rogers completing the Blues’ forward line in this list as they look to achieve big things under Xabi Alonso. He is only set to increase in value over the coming years, with a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033.

13. Elliot Anderson (Man City) - £101m

Anderson’s outstanding 2025-26 season at Nottingham Forest saw him rewarded with a £116m switch to Man City after a strong World Cup for England and ahead of the new campaign. He has quickly become one of the best midfielders on the planet right now.

The Newcastle academy graduate was, quite unbelievably, worth little over £38m this time last year, so his astronomical rise is certainly well reflected in this latest valuation from Transfermarkt. Anderson is the second-most valuable player in the Premier League, and the second-most valuable defensive midfielder in the world.

12. Desire Doue (PSG) - £101m

Doue is still one of the most underrated players in the world despite emerging as a starter for PSG and a standout attacker in European competition over the last 18 months. They sealed a bargain by signing him for little over £42m in 2024.

The French star is yet to reach his peak, and will surely only see his price tag increase in the years to come if he continues on his current trajectory. PSG have him tied down to the Parc des Princes until 2029.

11. Yan Diomande (Real Madrid) - £101m

Diomande has also completed a rapid and unorthodox rise to the top of the game over the last few years, and is already a regular starter for Real Madrid as a teenager after joining for £120m. They will be confident that his valuation is only due to rise as his career progresses.

The Ivorian forward was still playing in the Spanish lower leagues for Leganes B in the first few months of 2025, with his valuation shooting up from under £1m since then.

10. Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid) - £110m

He has been one of the leading players in world football over recent years, yet many are still waiting for Vinicius to reach his ultimate peak. The Brazilian has disappointed in recent times but already boasts a career littered with individual and team successes.

His current valuation is much lower than the almighty £169m that Transfermarkt believed he was worth towards the end of 2024. The versatile Real attacker still has plenty of time to recover his form and is recently extended his contract until 2032.

9. Vitinha (PSG) - £118m

Vitinha is clearly in his prime years and has never once been worth as much as his current market value. His price tag has doubled in the last 18 months after back-to-back Champions League triumphs with PSG.

The fleet-footed Portuguese midfielder deserves plenty of plaudits as a driving force behind their recent success. He is among the best midfielders in the world, with PSG having him tied down until 2029. They will surely have no plans to part ways with his services anytime soon.

8. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (PSG) - £118m

Kvaratskhelia has also been a catalyst for PSG’s outstanding performances under Luis Enrique in recent seasons, with 32 goal contributions in 55 appearances in 2025-26. They only forked out £59m for his services from Napoli in January 2025, which has proven to be a real bargain.

The flying Georgian winger is still in his mid-20s and so has plenty of years left to keep shining in Paris, with the club also retaining his services until 2029.

7. Joao Neves (PSG) - £118m

Neves is the final PSG star on this list after also playing his part in their recent success. The Portuguese international is four years younger than his club and country midfield partner, Vitinha, but has a longer contract until 2031.

The Ligue 1 champions tied him down to a new deal in September to improve his terms even further after a previous extension in February. His price tag is surely set to keep climbing in the coming years, with Neves already the most valuable player in the French top flight and in the Portugal national team.

6. Pedri (Barcelona) - £127m

Pedri has led Barcelona’s recent revival from the ground up after breaking into the first team in 2020 at just 17 years old. He has racked up over 250 appearances for the club and is a World Cup winner, with the initial £4.2m they paid to sign him from Las Palmas possibly proving to be the bargain of a generation.

The Spanish starlet will surely continue at Camp Nou for as long as he wants to, with his current deal set to run until 2030. He has been worth over £100m since March 2025, as per Transfermarkt.

5. Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid) - £135m

England’s greatest hope and one of Real Madrid’s modern-day Galacticos, Bellingham retains a huge value as he seems to go from strength to strength and refine his game with every season that passes. Los Blancos paid an initial £88.5m to sign him in 2023.

They would surely come close to doubling their money if he were to depart the Bernabeu anytime soon, but that seems very unlikely, with a contract that runs until 2029 and talks progressing for extended terms beyond 2030.

4. Michael Olise (Bayern Munich) - £152m

Olise’s current value might have been even higher had he decided to join Bellingham at international level for England, but he is instead building a legacy for France and has been a key man at Bayern Munich since joining for around £50m in 2024.

Bayern may well end up letting him leave in the coming years, with every chance that they receive triple the fee they paid as Real Madrid circle ahead of 2027. Olise’s value is protected somewhat by a contract with the Bavarian giants which expires in 2029.

3. Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid) - £169m

Mbappe will go down as an all-time great when he hangs his boots up, let alone the biggest star of his generation of players. He is approaching his 30s, yet has never been as valuable as he is today while enjoying some outstanding form for club and country.

The French hero reached his current value as early as 2018 at just 19 years old, and despite going through some dips in recent seasons, he could now be at his peak on and off the pitch. Madrid will be looking to extend his deal soon, as it also expires in 2029.

2. Erling Haaland (Man City) - £186m

Transfermarkt have Man City striker Haaland down as the final Premier League star on this list and the joint-most valuable player in the world. He keeps scoring at an unbelievably incredible rate and probably still has more to give, whether that be at the Etihad or elsewhere.

City will surely need to beat their charges to keep hold of the burly Norwegian marksman for much longer, as he continues to bag regularly in 2026-27. His contract does not expire until 2034, and any club keen on his services would have to fork out a world-record fee in an unaffected market.

1. Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) - £186m

Lamine Yamal, Barcelona
Lamine YamalImago

Yamal is the standout star of this latest generation of players and thus boasts the joint-highest valuation on the planet right now. Some of the things he produces on the football pitch are unexplainable, and it is almost beyond comprehension that he is not even 20 years old yet.

The Barcelona star is set to be a cornerstone of their team for many years to come, with the club surely considering him not for sale at any price, let alone around £186m, as his release clause is set at a mind-boggling £840m.
