'Real quality' - Exclusive: Paul Robinson raves over Tottenham transfer move

Paul Robinson says that Steven Bergwijn is going to be a “real acquisition” for Tottenham after his arrival from PSV Eindhoven.

The former Spurs and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the winger reminds him a lot of former Manchester United and France international Memphis Depay.

The Lilywhites confirmed on Wednesday that they had wrapped up the capture of the Dutch international on a long-term contract after emerging through the youth ranks at PSV.

Robinson admits it is an exciting signing for Jose Mourinho’s men, suggesting he could help solve the problems that the Portuguese boss has when it comes to his lack of centre-forward options.

Robinson told Football Insider: “They’ve added Bergwijn, he’s a bit like Memphis Depay, he reminds me of Memphis Depay. He can play wide and I think he’ll be able to play centrally – he’s not a number nine but he can play through the middle.

“He’s going to be a real quality acquisition but there’s too many players the same – there’s five players who would play in three positions in the team.”

Bergwijn has been a threat in both scoring and assisting goals this season, setting up 13 for his teammates and netting a further six of his own across all competitions.

The Dutch star, who has nine international caps under his belt, leaves PSV one appearance short of 150, scoring 31 times and chipping in with 41 assists.

In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that there has been a big Troy Parrott development after the club pulled a U-turn over the youngster.
