Jamie Redknapp has hailed Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera as the Premier League’s most improved player after he produced a great performance against Tottenham.
The 27-year-old starred in the 1-0 victory against Spurs at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon and Redknapp praised him for his work-rate and pressing.
Herrera joined United in 2014 for £29 million from Athletic Bilbao but has struggled to hold down a regular position in the first team under Louis Van Gaal.
However, Redknapp believes Herrera has been in great form and had lots of praise for the United star after another good performance during the blockbuster clash at Old Trafford.
“Ander Herrera is probably the most improved player in the Premier League this season. He goes underrated but he’s the first man who starts the press,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports TV.
“I love what he does. He’s their [Manchester United] go to guy this season.”
He performed well in the second half of the 2015-16 season and fans were calling for him to play regularly under Jose Mourinho following the manager’s appointment in the summer.
Since Mourinho’s arrival, Herrera has made 19 appearances in all competitions this season and has become an important figure in the United first team.
He has played well alongside Paul Pogba in the holding midfield role and has kept Michael Carrick, Wayne Rooney and Bastian Schweinsteiger out of the starting line-up for much of the season.
Manchester United currently sit in sixth position following their victory against Spurs but are now just three points off Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored his second goal in three days to break the deadlock and secured victory following an impressive display from Mourinho’s side.
In other Manchester United news, Mourinho made this bold claim about Tottenham ahead of the clash.
