Jamie Redknapp believes that Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen is “the most under-rated player in the Premier League” and deserves some kind of recognition for the sheer amount of assists he supplies.
Eriksen, 25, has been in hot form ever since signing for Spurs in 2013 and has regularly been among the top creators in the English top-flight.
This season, the Denmark international has scored two goals and supplied four assists in seven appearances across all competitions in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
He was on top form once again on Saturday when he scored what turned out to be the match winning goal in the 3-2 win at West Ham, but strangely Redknapp thinks that a lot of his performances go under the radar a lot of the time.
“With the super strikers on fire, it is easy to overlook the creative geniuses who fuel these front men,” said ex-Spurs midfielder Redknapp on the Daily Mail website.
“Christian Eriksen is the most under-rated player in the Premier League. He makes Harry Kane and Dele Alli tick with phenomenal service — just look at his sublime ball to free Alli in the build-up to Tottenham’s first goal against West Ham.
“It’s easy to see why Eriksen does not get the same attention as Spurs’ other stars. He does not court the limelight — he almost needs a tattoo or a silly haircut to make him stand out!”
Tottenham ace Eriksen has played a crucial role in helping his side build to be genuine title contenders after years of disappointing finishes.
He has made a total of 186 appearances since moving to North London and in that time scored 33 goals and supplied a stunning 60 assists.
Not many playmakers come close to Eriksen in the Premier League and he is perhaps up there on the same pedestal as Manchester City duo David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.
Up next for Tottenham and Eriksen is an away trip to Cyprus in the Champions League on Tuesday night when they take on APOEL Nicosia in the group stages.
