Redknapp delivers verdict on Tottenham midfielder, makes inspiration claim

By Harvey Byrne

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes that current star Dele Alli inspired kids across the country last season.

The Sky Sports pundit chose his best goals of the 2016 calendar year, which saw Alli’s goal against Crystal Palace named.

The 20-year-old received the ball in the air at Selhurst Park, keeping it up with some sweet skill before firing home from outside the box to put his side 2-1 up in the 83rd minute.

Redknapp was clearly wowed by the goal and has told how his children are now trying to replicate the strike, while describing Alli as a “very talented player.”

“This is a great goal,” started Redknapp, as quoted by the Sky Sports website. “And, like all great goals, it has inspired kids across the country to try to copy it.”

“In the same way that youngsters watching the game tried to recreate David Beckham’s free-kicks or Wayne Rooney’s overhead, they’ve been trying to score ‘an Alli’. My seven year old is always in the garden trying to replicate it! It’s a great piece of skill from a very talented player.”

Alli has emerged into a star of England’s top flight in the last year after making a £5million move to White Hart Lane from League One side MK Dons in 2015.

The young starlet has established himself as a key part of the Tottenham team and was vital to Spurs’ high third place finish in the last campaign.

He will now have his attentions turned to helping the north London side improve from their current fifth placed standing with Southampton coming up next on Wednesday.

In other Tottenham news, Harry Redknapp has shared his interest in this Premier League job.
