Reece James sent a clear message to Chelsea fans about their development this season after the Blues’ victory against Brentford.

Enzo Maresca’s side defeated the Bees 2-1 on Sunday (15 December) after goals from Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson, with Bryan Mbeumo’s 90th-minute strike proving to be nothing more than a consolation.

The victory placed more pressure on Liverpool at the top of the table as the Blues moved to within two points of the league leaders while also extending the gap between them and Arsenal to four points.

Chelsea currently sit second in the Premier League, but the message coming out of the club continues to be that they’re not in the title race.

That sentiment was echoed by the Chelsea captain who said, “brick by brick” in an Instagram post reflecting on his team's latest three points.

The post highlighted the fact that the Blues are still a team in progress and are building towards something greater.

Reece James continues to work toward a Chelsea comeback

James’ newest setback came after making four consecutive appearances at the end of October and into the start of November which had given fans hope that he’d gotten over his issues.

That appears not to be the case as his injury-stricken run has continued, with Malo Gusto continuing to feature at right-back instead.

James has managed to play just 39 times for the Premier League giants since the start of the 2022-23 campaign across all competitions.

Chelsea will be back in action on Thursday (19 December) against Shamrock Rovers n the Europa Conference League before playing Everton in the Premier League on Sunday (22 December).
