Danny Mills has tipped new Tottenham star Tanguy Ndombele to take his game to the next level “very quickly” after his goal-scoring debut for the club.
The former England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that it was a solid start from the 22-year-old midfielder against Aston Villa, his strike helping Mauricio Pochettino’s men secure a 3-1 win.
John McGinn had given Villa the lead but the Frenchman’s low drive through a crowded penalty box levelled the scores, Harry Kane netting a brace to seal victory.
Mills says that Ndombele will admit he has some way to go before he hits his best form in the Premier League but backed the former Lyon man to improve sooner rather than later.
Mills told Football Insider: “I think he’d say himself that the Premier League would take some getting used to, it’s relentless, it’s as simple as that.
“It’s the pace, the physicality, the lack of time on the ball is not easy to deal with but he will get better. It was a fabulous strike and players of great quality adapt very, very quickly and I’m sure he will be one of those.”
Ndombele, who has four caps for France, is relatively inexperienced in terms of first-team football compared to some of his Spurs teammates, with less than 100 appearances for Olympique Lyonnais before his move to north London.
He was joined by Gio Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon in signing for the Lilywhites this summer, while Jack Clarke also joined before returning to Leeds United on loan.
