Reliable journalist: Huge fitness boost for Leeds star after Sky Sports report

By George Brooks

Leeds United winger Stuart Dallas has been named in the Northern Ireland squad for tonight’s World Cup qualifying play-off against Switzerland, according to journalist Liam Blackburn.

Dallas had been a doubt to make the squad, with Sky Sports reporting yesterday that the 26-year-old suffered a “heavily bruised foot” during the 1-0 first-leg defeat in Belfast on Thursday.

However, Blackburn, a journalist who covers Northern Ireland football, posted this message on his official Twitter account on Sunday morning, stating that the player has been named in Michael O’Neill’s 23-man squad.

The Leeds senior player has been a regular for boss O’Neill in Northern Ireland’s qualification campaign, which saw them finish second in Group C behind world champions Germany.

Jamie Ward had been expected to replace him after coming off the bench for him in the first-leg reverse on Thursday.

If Dallas does play, it will likely be the biggest game of his international career so far.

It is encouraging news for Leeds fans, with Dallas having scored two goals in 15 appearances for the Whites this season under head coach Thomas Christiansen.

He will be hoping to return to action for his club in the Championship clash against high-flying Middlesbrough at Elland Road on November 19.

Leeds have lost seven of their last nine Championship matches, a run which has seen then fall outside of the play-off positions to 10th place.

In other Leeds news, the Whites have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of this striker after contract talks between him and his club broke down.
