Newcastle United are eyeing up a mid-season friendly match after it was revealed the first team would have a three week gap between games following the postponement of their game with Tottenham, according to a reliable journalist.
The Chronicle’s chief sports writer Lee Ryder has claimed on his personal Twitter account that there could be a surprise added fixture for fans in between their home games against Southampton on the 10th of March and the clash with Huddersfield on the 31st, with the Spurs fixture originally scheduled for the 16th.

However, as a result of the Lilywhites’ progression in the FA Cup, which means they will play Swansea City on the 17th instead, the fixture has officially been postponed, leaving the Magpies with nearly a month off as a result of an international break.

As such, it is stated that Newcastle could arrange a friendly clash to keep up fitness, although there are no suggestions as to who they might play.
Football Insider verdict
The prospect of a mid-season friendly will be welcome news to supporters, who might be able to enjoy 90 minutes of football without worrying about the prospect of what the result will mean in terms of the club’s relegation battle. The squad will also appreciate the opportunity to have a kick around to keep up fitness and morale, and it could be an opportunity for Rafael Benitez to test out some tactical changes and squad experimentation ahead of a crunch finish to the Premier League season. Whether it is at home or away remains to be seen, but the prospect of a holiday abroad for the Toon Army might be welcomed warmly considering the British weather.
