Nottingham Forest are eyeing Leicester midfielder Matty James, according to a reliable journalist.

The 25-year-old failed to make a single appearance for the Foxes in their title winning campaign and has played just once for Claudio Ranieri’s side this season.

Paul Taylor, a journalist for the Nottingham Post has now reported on his personal Twitter account that Forest have made an approach for James, but second tier rivals Barnsley are currently the side in pole after holding talks.

Barnsley are believed to be in for a midfielder to replace the possibly Aston Villa bound Connor Hourihane.

Meanwhile, Forest will also be looking for a replacement for former star Henri Lansbury, who also made a switch to the Midlands giants.

However, with the current problems at the City Ground alongside their 19th placed position in the Championship they don’t hold the same attraction that they once did.

Now, James could have proved a good addition for Gary Brazil’s side with 87 Championship appearances to his name with a return of six goals and nine assists.

But, it would now seem that the second tier giants will have to turn their attentions to alternative targets before the window ends.

Football Insider verdict:

Nottingham Forest fans appear to be hearing bad news with each passing week with the ownership situation and no manager after Philippe Montanier lost his job. Now the likely missing out of James will also be disappointing news, but it isn’t the end of the world. The player has seen very little competitive football in the past year and Forest are not the club to rehabilitate the player back to fitness right now. There is no telling that James would be the same player that he once was before his long-term injury and Forest need to add players to their team who they know will be able to contribute immediately. The club are currently in a bad position and they must improve their squad before the windows end on Wednesday.
