'They remind me of Amir Khan' - Joey Barton slams Liverpool after draw v Newcastle
By Danny Wright
Joey Barton has claimed that Liverpool are the ‘Amir Khan of football’ after they dropped points away at Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park after they went a goal up through Philippe Coutinho before Joselu equalised for the Magpies after a lapse in concentration in defence.
Liverpool’s defence has been constantly criticised by pretty much everyone involved in the game for a very long time now and over the summer things appear to have not changed.
When it’s their day, Jurgen Klopp’s attack are able to out-score most sides in the Premier League but Sunday was an occasion when they couldn’t break down a stubborn Newcastle defence after they let slip of their lead.
Former Magpies midfielder Barton has now compared Liverpool to boxer Amir Khan, as he is also known for being good on the attack but hopeless when on the backfoot.

“They are so chinny, to use a boxing analogy. They throw a great array of punches, they are lovely going forward but they remind me of Amir Khan, they are just getting knocked out,” said Barton, as quoted on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast’s official Twitter account on Monday morning.

This isn’t the first time that Barton has slammed the Liverpool defence recently, however his claims are certainly justified when you see the amount of goals they have shipped compared to everyone else in the Premier League.
Only two more sides, West Ham and basement boys Crystal Palace, have conceded more than Liverpool this season, and both of them are floundering towards the bottom of the standings.
