Renato Veiga to Tottenham: ‘£30m’ offer will be accepted

Chelsea defender Renato Veiga could be available for as little as £30million this summer as Tottenham weigh up an offer, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs are set to be on the hunt for new defenders this summer with speculation over Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s futures, with the latter the most likely to make a move away from Tottenham.

Veiga, meanwhile, also looks set to be on the move this summer after being loaned to Juventus by Chelsea in January, despite only being signed by the Blues in a £12m deal from Basel 12 months ago.

Sources have told Football Insider that the Blues want to make a “quick profit” on Veiga as soon as they can, and Chelsea look for around £30m this summer to sell him at two-and-a-half-times his initial price.

Tottenham transfer for Veiga unlikely for one major reason

Despite Tottenham being in the market for central defensive reinforcements this summer – particularly if one of Romero or Van de Ven leaves – Football Insider sources doubt their chances of signing Veiga.

Chelsea may be happy to sell the 21-year-old, but rarely do business with their bitter London rivals, and sources have told Football Insider that this factor will cast any such deal into doubt for Tottenham.

Furthermore, Football Insider‘s sources have also noted Tottenham’s hesitation to spend £30m on a player who has been bit-part for both Chelsea and Juventus, with a move for Veiga some way off despite their significant injuries in central defence this season.

Tottenham transfer plans clear after season to forget

As well as the Blues’ reluctance to deal with Tottenham in the transfer market, the expected backlash from Chelsea fans if they were to sell Veiga casts further doubt on the prospect of a deal being done.
