Reo Hatate told to reject Leicester offer and 'stay at Celtic' - expert

Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate should resist the urge to move to Premier League side Leicester City and remain in Scotland.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Celtic striker Frank McAvennie believes Hatate, 26, could "do better" than Leicester if he stays in Scotland for at least another season.

With Matt O'Riley looking increasingly likely to leave Celtic Park before the end of the transfer window, the Scottish champions won't want to lose a second central midfielder.

Reo Hatate urged to stay at Celtic

The Japan international joined Celtic in January 2022 and has since won three league titles with the Glasgow giants.

Injury issues hampered Hatate's progress last season but he's started this campaign impressively, scoring once in three appearances for the club.

"I think (Reo) Hatate is different class", McAvennie told Football Insider.

"I think he could do better than Leicester, no disrespect to Leicester but I think he could do better than that.

"I also think if Matt (O'Riley) stays another year he would do better than Brighton, against no disrespect.

"If you move down there you want to go into the top six, if you're leaving the fanbase that Celtc has to go down there.

"I've got no doubt that Hatate wants to play in the Premier League, same for O'Riley but I would love to see them stay another year.

"We will see how it goes."
