Aston Villa will not be signing Wolfsburg winger Anton Donkor, according to a report.
The Birmingham Mail claim that the 19-year-old Bundesliga sensation has had his head turned after Premier League outfit Everton showed interest in him.
It is said Villa held talks with the player’s agent but he is now edging closer to a move to Goodison Park.
This would see Villa miss out on a player who was on their radar as a possible deal to sign the teenage ace has been hijacked by the top tier club.
Donkor is yet to make a senior appearance for Wolfsburg but the highly-rated youngster has impressed for the under-19s.
The German has played 56 games for the younger age group, scoring 23 goals and supplying 18 assists.
It is claimed Donkor is now expected to hold talks about a move to Goodison Park this week as he has opted for the Merseyside rather than the Midlands.
Football Insider verdict:
Donkor would have been a brilliant purchase for Steve Bruce’s side, more so because of his raw talent and the fact that he can operate on the left-hand side of attack. This would have been of a great benefit to Villa as Donkor would have added a bit of mystery to the squad. However, the Midlands are sitting in the Championship, aiming for promotion, so they should not be too down hearted that the youngster could be opting for a move to the Premier League instead. Not only that, Bruce’s side are already on the verge of adding more attacking talent to their side as Barnsley playmaker Conor Hourihane edges closer to move. All in all, Villa have not lost out on much in regards to Donkor, but they still must look elsewhere for a left-sided player.
