Report: Celtic in talks to seal deal for international playmaker available for bargain in summer

Celtic remain in contract talks with Australian midfielder Tom Rogic as he closes in on entering the final year of his contract, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claim on their website that the Hoops are keen to seal a deal for the 25-year-old playmaker, despite reports from Australia which have stated he has turned down a contract offer and looking for an exit in the summer.
Rogic, who has 26 goals and 21 assists under his belt in his 119 appearances for the club, is said to be eyeing up a move south of the border to England, and could well use the World Cup as a stage to display his talents.
With his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2019, the 31-cap international looks set to be available for a bargain price in summer if the Bhoys cannot agree terms on a new deal, with the midfielder able to sign on a pre-contract agreement in January, which would see him leave Parkhead on a free.
Football Insider verdict
Rogic has been one of Celtic’s most influential players at times during his career in Glasgow, and losing him would be a major blow. It comes as no surprise that the club are working hard to try and tie him up, but with reported interest from English clubs, it could be difficult. What will be the most damning blow to the Hoops is that they may well have to accept a cut-price for his services as a result of his contract situation, instead of getting the money which he is worth. Still, they have time to negotiate, and will know by the summer where he stands, so there will still be some hope of securing his future at Celtic Park.
