Report: Contact made as Euro giants tempt key Tottenham figure over departure
Spanish giants Real Madrid have made contact with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino’s representatives as they look to bring him in as their new boss, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claim on their website that the reigning Champions League champions have made the Argentinian their top choice to replace the man currently in the dugout Zinedine Zidane, and that they have taken their pursuit to the next level by holding talks with the Spurs figure’s associates.
The report states that Pochettino himself is tempted by a move to the Bernabeu, with his contract at the north London club expiring in 2021, and that there is no break clause in the deal meaning Real will have to prise the manager from Spurs’ grip.
The 45-year-old has been in charge of Tottenham since arriving from Southampton back in 2014, having impressed in his 60 games with the Saints in what was his first managerial spell in England.
Since arriving in north London Pochettino has gone on to see his side win 108 of the 196 games he has overseen, scoring 371 goals and averaging 1.85 points a game.
This season saw him go up against his potential suitors, pulling off a 1-1 draw in Spain before a Dele Alli inspired performance saw his men pick up a 3-1 victory in the Champions League, helping ensure they went unbeaten during their six-game group stage.
