Anderlecht have been dealt with a major injury blow to defender Kara Mbodji ahead of their Champions League clash with Celtic on Wednesday night, according to a report.

The Daily Record claims that Kara, 27, will miss the next two weeks' worth of action with a knee injury and is set to be sidelined for what is a big fixture in the group stages as both the Scottish and Belgian sides look to at least secure third position behind giants Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

Kara is a key centre-back in the Anderlecht squad so his absence from next week's clash is a massive blow for the Brussels club after attacker Andy Najar was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Senegal international Kara has made six appearances across all competitions this term but hasn't played since August due to his injury issues.

Both Anderlecht and Celtic lost their opening Champions League group stage fixtures and many would agree that the two sides are aiming to finish in third place and qualify for the Europa League knock-out rounds, however to do that they would need to get a decent result against one another.

Celtic have had injury concerns of their own in defence this season, but Dedryck Boyata returned to action to make his first appearance of the season on Wedneaday night in the League Cup win over Dundee.
