Report: Everton ready summer swoop for long term Tottenham attacking target destined for PL
Everton and Tottenham are both lining up a summer transfer move for PSV Eindhoven starlet Steven Bergwijn, according to a report.
ESPN FC claim on their website that the Premier League rivals are both keen on capturing the signing of the 20-year-old winger, with the Dutch club reportedly expecting a host of bids for their young star in the upcoming window.
It is said that the youngster seems destined for the Premier League, and that Tottenham have held long-term tabs on his development, although Everton seem set to test PSV’s desire to hold onto the promising talent.
Bergwijn has helped his side top the Eredivisie table this season with five goals and six assists in 22 appearances, having featured on both the right and left flank.
Football Insider verdict
If Bergwijn continues his fine performances at such a young age then there will likely be more than just Spurs and the Toffees interested in his signature. If England is where he wants to end up, then he may well have to make a tough decision of where he signs, with both clubs having reasons to tempt him. Tottenham are competing at the very top of the table and are in Europe, which is always something a player will consider, but will he receive the playing time he wants with a host of attacking stars at Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal? Everton will likely be able to find space in their first team for the youngster, but will he want to drop from challenging for titles to a mid-table battle, especially with Spurs reportedly interested?
