Liverpool have entered fresh contract talks with defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to a report.

The Times claims that the Reds have been so impressed by the 18-year-old’s progress that they are willing to offer him new deal, despite the teen only signing off on his current terms just nine months ago.

The exciting youngster penned a five-year deal last November to commit himself to the Merseyside club until 2021.

It is understood from the Times that Liverpool have presented him with an offer which will extend his current contract by a further year and “is likely to result in improved personal terms”.

Alexander-Arnold is regarded as one of the most exciting youngsters currently bursting on to the scene at Liverpool, and earned his full debut in January when he featured in a 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The marauding right-back has also been tearing up the youth international scene, with six goals in ten England Under-19 appearances, despite playing in a reserved position.

His great form for both club and country at youth level means that he is expected to pose a firm challenge to Nathaniel Clyne for a starting spot in Jurgen Klopp’s future plans.

Football Insider Verdict

From what everyone has seen of Alexander-Arnold so far, he looks like he will soon become England’s No 1 right-back choice. He’s rapid, good on the ball, has a wicked delivery, and epitomises the role that a modern day full-back plays in a team. Clyne really needs to be looking over his shoulder at Alexander-Arnold, because his performances last season weren’t the best and Klopp has shown before that he isn’t afraid to axe out-of-form senior players in the favour of youth. This new contract deal is huge for Liverpool, because if he does reach stardom, they can at least demand a huge amount of money for his services.
