Jurgen Klopp is close to finalising a deal to sign Leicester City winger Demarai Gray, according to a report.
The Mirror claim Liverpool are becoming “increasingly confident” of sealing a move for the 20-year-old when the summer transfer window opens on 1 July.
It is said that the Merseyside giants will table an offer to trigger the £12million release clause in Gray’s contract at the start of the window.
Since making a £3.5million move from Birmingham to Leicester in January 2016, the exciting winger, who is renowned for his pace and stepovers, has failed to make a mark at the King Power Stadium.
This season the England Under-21s international has made 40 appearances in all competitions for the Foxes, but has mainly been used from the bench.
The 20-year-old has scored one goal and supplied five assists in his 29 Premier League appearances.
Gray has made seven appearances for England Under-21s and has scored two goals.
Football Insider verdict
Liverpool have lacked width in their side since Sadio Mane’s season-ending injury and Gray can provide just that. The 20-year-old is quick, skillful and score goals. The Reds will need extra depth in their squad with a European campaign in the offing and Gray has shown this year that he can make an impact from the bench if needed. The £12million fee is a reasonable one and Klopp will have no issues paying it for a player who has plenty of potential, which fans will hope can be drawn out of him at Anfield.
