Liverpool have made a sensational move to sign Real Madrid forward Lucas Vazquez this summer, according to a report.
Spanish outlet Don Balon claims that the Merseyside club have offered the 26-year-old a better salary and they have assured him first-team action this season.
The report claims that the Reds are not the only club interested in the Spaniard as Italian giants Roma have also made him a similar offer.
Vazquez has reportedly informed Madrid captain Sergio Ramos that he intends to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer although the defender is doing his best to convince him to stay.
The forward has been used as a late substitute in Madrid’s first competitive matches of the season against Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup and Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup.
It is said that his departure is likely to depend on whether Madrid make more additions to the attack in the transfer window but the forward is reportedly gearing close towards a move away from the Spanish capital.
Vazquez has already enjoyed wonderful success at the club since breaking into the first-team two years ago, winning the La Liga title and lifting the Champions League for two seasons in a row.
The Spaniard enjoyed his finest campaign for the club in terms of numbers last season, contributing with four goals and a whopping 14 assists in all competitions.
The forward currently has four years remaining on his contract with the Spanish giants.
Football Insider verdict
Acquiring the services of Vazquez this summer would be a major coup for Liverpool. The forward has shown over the last two seasons that he can deliver at the top level as he has been heavily involved in Madrid’s recent Champions League success. With the amount of attacking talent at the Bernabeu, the Spaniard is unlikely to be a starter this season and Liverpool should use this to try and persuade him to sign for them, especially as he’ll be trying to break his way into the Spain national team to compete in next year’s World Cup. Roma will also be an enticing option for the youngster as they are much closer to winning their domestic league, but should the Reds manage to keep playmaker Philippe Coutinho, it could encourage Vazquez to move to England as it sends out a message that Liverpool are a team looking to fight for trophies.
