Report: Newcastle and West Ham line up summer swoop for giant attacking speed machine

Newcastle United are joined by Premier League rivals West Ham and Everton in hunting a summer transfer swoop for Stoke City attacker Eric Choupo-Moting, according to a report.

The Gambling Times claim that there is set to be a massive top flight hunt for the versatile 29-year-old at the end of the season as the Potters face relegation to the Championship, which could see a host of their star players depart.

With five goals and five assists in the 6’3″ giant’s 30 top flight appearances since arriving from Schalke on a free transfer, the Magpies, Hammers and Toffees are all said to be keen on securing his signature.

Despite his height, Choupo-Moting is also known as a speed machine, and the 44-cap Cameroon international is able to operate on the left wing and as a centre forward, while also having been used as a secondary striker at times this season.

Football Insider verdict

It comes as no surprise that Choupo-Moting is being tipped as some hot property this summer, for a stay at Stoke seems massively unlikely. He has been one of the few bright sparks at the Potteries this season and he will no doubt be keen to remain in the top flight rather than plying his trade in the Championship. As for those interested in his capture, Newcastle seem the most in need of his signing, if they use him as a centre forward, while going to West Ham would hand David Moyes a like-for-like replacement for Marko Arnautovic. As for Everton, they are quite well stocked in attack, but he could certainly add something a little different out wide with his height. Who is going to seal the deal? Fans will have to wait and see.
