Aleksandar Mitrovic is said to be on a "collision course" with Newcastle over his summer transfer to Fulham, according to a report.

The Mirror (live transfer blog, 5.02pm) claims that the striker, currently out with Serbia in Russia, is convinced a deal has been done which would see him make a permanent switch to Fulham.

However, the club says that Fulham have not met their £20million valuation.

Mitrovic has said he wants to leave St James' Park this summer.

Football Insider verdict:

Rafa Benitez is verging on god-like status at St James' Park and he's done wonders on a shoestring budget with Newcastle. However, he shouldn't be immune from criticism and his relationship with Mitrovic is vexing. Newcastle have been desperate for a striker, despite having the 23-year-old Serbian available to them last season. After making just six Premier League appearances, Mitrovic left on loan in January and spearheaded Fulham's return to the Premier League, with 12 goals in 17 games. There's a hugely talented striker in Mitrovic but for whatever reason, he's never been able to do it for Newcastle. An extended run in the side might have given him the confidence to do in the Premier League, what he already proved he can do in the Championship and on the international stage. Fulham would do well to snap him up and £20million is a bargain in this day and age for a striker who could easily score 20+ goals in a season. We expect this one to go through. And we expect Newcastle to struggle to replace him for £20million.
