Newcastle and Everton will both be at Galatasaray’s crunch away clash with Fenerbahce to scout winger Garry Rodrigues after holding talks over a potential swoop regularly throughout the season, according to a report.
Turkish publication Aksam claim on their website that the Magpies and the Toffees will both be in attendance at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on Saturday to watch the 27-year-old Cape Verde international in action as they mull over taking him to the Premier League.
It is claimed in the report that both English sides have been in constant contact with Galatasaray over a possible move for Rodrigues, who has scored seven goals and chipped in with nine assists in 30 appearances this season, and that they will continue monitoring his progress by jetting out for the Turkish derby clash in the top flight this weekend.
Football Insider verdict
It looks as though there could be a head-to-head battle for Rodrigues’ signing this summer and if it comes down to spending power, then the Toffees have it in the bag. However, whether they really need the 27-year-old is another matter, and it could be that they are looking at possible replacements in case of any exits over the summer window. Newcastle meanwhile have four wingers at their disposal already but with Kenedy set to rejoin Chelsea after his loan spell, another wide man seems a must for the Magpies, and Rafael Benitez seems to have set his sights on the Galatasaray star.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, the club look set to offload this 22-year-old after hunting a top flight freebie.
