Report: Newcastle to reignite top flight speed machine swoop with eight-figure bid
Newcastle United are set to reignite a move for Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues in the summer as they plot a £10million bid, according to a report.
Turkish sports news outlet Fotomac claim on their website that the Magpies saw a £6million offer rejected for the 27-year-old Cape Verde international over the January transfer window, but are readying an improved eight figure offer for the end of the season.
The 23-cap international speed machine has been a regular for Galatasaray in Turkey’s top flight this season, appearing in all but one of their 22 league games so far, chipping in with four goals and seven assists.
The versatile winger, who can operate on either flank, has turned out a total of 44 times for the Turkish club, and has seven goals under his belt.
Football Insider verdict
The fact Newcastle are eyeing up another winger for the summer suggests that one of the club’s current options could well be on their way at the end of the season. The most likely exit seems to be on loan wide man Kenedy, who is unlikely to make his temporary move into a permanent one, leaving Christian Atsu, Matt Ritchie and Jacob Murphy battling it out. Both Murphy and Atsu arrived at the club last summer, the Ghanaian after a season long loan, which suggests that neither of the pair have done enough to convince manager Rafael Benitez of their place in the starting XI. Is Rodrigues the right man for the job? As Kenedy has shown, pace and power down the flank can make a huge difference, and if he could replicate the Brazilian’s form, then there is no reason why he cannot be a first team star.
