German side Borussia Dortmund have launched an official bid for Tottenham’s top transfer target Malcom after they failed to secure his signing in the January window, according to a report.
The Sun claim on their website that the Bundesliga heavyweights have joined league rivals Bayern Munich in hunting the 20-year-old’s signature and have already put an offer on the table for the winger’s club Bordeaux ahead of the opening of the summer market.
It is said that Dormund had identified Malcom as a potential replacement for fellow winger Ousmane Dembele, who left Germany to join Barcelona in a £92.5million (€105million) deal last summer, but their January pursuit ended in disappointment.
Spurs were said to be very keen on reigniting their own interest in summer, after also failing in a transfer hunt, but that the pair of German sides lead the way for the young star’s capture.
Football Insider verdict
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino may well be ruing what might have been after looking likely to capture Malcom in January, before being forced to wait until the summer to seal the deal. While they managed to take Lucas Moura to north London, the Bordeaux speed machine was evidently their first choice, but with two German giants having joined the hunt, it certainly seems like they will face a fight to get him to join his fellow Brazilian. Pochettino and his transfer team will have to make a decision sooner rather than later over whether to continue their hunt, or move their attentions to new targets.
