Report provides emphatic update on Leeds deadline day search for defenders

Despite the transfer window being in its final hours, Leeds United have yet to find a suitable central defender to sign that matches their criteria, according to a report.
The Daily Mail Live Transfer Blog (Wednesday, 18:07) report that the Whites have spent deadline day searching for central defenders to sign as Pontus Jansson is their only option not suspended or ruled out through injury.
The newspaper believe that Leeds only want to sign a centre-back on a six-month loan deal and as they have not found a player who matches their search criteria, the club are not rushing any deals through.
With Liam Cooper, Matthew Pennington and Conor Shaughnessy all unavailable, Gaetano Berardi has been playing at centre-back instead of taking up his usual position at right-back.
Football Insider Verdict
This is a worrying update if you’re a Leeds fan, as the club clearly need some cover at the back. While it’s logical that the Whites only want to sign temporary cover as it’s only a recent injury crisis that has left them struggling for options, surely there must be someone. It’s very important that Leeds don’t drop any more points in their bid to win promotion, and if they’ve defensively weak, then their Championship opponents will make them pay. The Whites have already fallen out of the play-off places as it is. Hopefully, the Whites find someone to sign in the next few hours and this report will soon be forgotten.
In other Leeds transfer news, they have decided not to recall this man from his loan.
