Report: Speed machine among double injury doubt for Tottenham v Manchester United

By Russell Edge

Manchester United duo Ander Herrera and Marcus Rashford are both doubts for the club’s clash against Tottenham at Old Trafford, according to a report.

ESPN claim on their website that sources have said the first team duo both picked up minor injuries in their League Cup win over Swansea on Tuesday, and are set to be monitored by the United medical staff ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Speed machine Rashford is said to have felt a tightness in his hamstring against the Swans, while midfield maestro Herrera picked up a knock on his ankle in a collision with Kyle Naughton.

The duo both found themselves substituted by Jose Mourinho after 67 minutes on Tuesday, but it is reported the club are hopeful both the 19 and 28-year-old will be fit to take on Spurs.

United are also said to be positive over the fitness of defensive duo Phil Jones, who went off injured in their shock 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield last week, and Eric Bailly, who has been out of action for the last four matches with a groin strain.

However Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini are both set to continue to miss out for Mourinho’s side with a hamstring injury and knee ligament damage respectively.

Saturday’s match will see third placed Spurs look to leapfrog United into second place as they currently sit level in the Premier League table, both five points behind league leaders Manchester City.

In other Tottenham news, the club are lining up a swoop for a 20-year-old midfield revelation.
