Report: Aston Villa flop set for move to Premier League

By Amir Mir

Ex-Aston Villa winger Charles N’Zogbia could be set for a contract with Premier League side Sunderland, according to a report.

The Northern Echo claim that the Villa flop is edging closer to a contract with the Wearsiders as new boss David Moyes looks to make the most out of the free agent.

N’Zogbia was released by Villa earlier in the summer and has since been training with the Premier League outfit in order to boost his fitness.

England manager Sam Allardyce, who officially left his role as Sunderland boss on Friday, had taken the 30-year-old on the club’s pre-season tour of Austria as he looked to earn a contract with the club.

The highly-criticised midfielder, who earned a reported £60,000-a-week at Villa but only made two Premier League appearances last season, scored the winning goal against Rotherham on Sunday to boost his chances of a contract.

It is said Moyes will make a decision in the next seven days as the Scot wants to see the more of the former Newcastle.

The former France international flew out with Sunderland to his home country on Monday morning as the club are set to take on French outfits Stade Nyonnais, Dijon FCO and Montpellier.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, owner Tony Xia has revealed four players will depart the club this week.
