Premier League rivals Watford and Bournemouth have launched a transfer battle to try and sign Celtic attacker Callum McGregor this summer, according to a report.
The Sun claim on their website that the two English top flight sides are desperate to try and take the 24-year-old south of the border but that the Hoops have slapped a £10million price tag on the red hot star’s head.
McGregor, who has three years remaining on his contract at Celtic Park, has been in some of the best form of his life as a favourite under Brendan Rodgers, scoring 11 goals and chipping in with eight assists in his 51 appearances, and is in great form with three strikes in his last five outings.
Football Insider verdict
Celtic are always under threat of Premier League clubs poaching away their best talent but with McGregor they might have a chance of warding off their interest. The 24-year-old is a firm favourite at Parkhead but more importantly he appears to love his life with the Hoops, and moving to a mid-table, or even a relegation candidate, in England would not satisfy him – especially not after playing in the Champions League. The only thing that might turn his head, as with any player across the globe, is money, and unfortunately for the Bhoys that is the one area they cannot compete with their rivals south of the border. The £10million price tag does not seem an unrealistic demand and that money could help fund improvements in the Hoops’ squad – but would they find anyone better than McGregor now? It is a risk, and potentially not one worth taking as they push for more titles next season.
